This home is for a ceramist and a painter. The couple wished to have spaces in which they could each create their art in a specific and solitary way. As a design strategy, the home is divided into a studio and living unit. A screened courtyard in the middle allows for ample light and cross ventilation. It serves as an interstitial space that separates but also connects the two sections of the home.

Rejah Khawar is a Project Architect at Open Door Design Studio. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Karachi. Her thesis work focused on creating hybridized opportunities for public spaces within dense urban environments. She brings these sensibilities to the work she leads at the studio - always finding multiple meanings and opportunities within a single situation.
Previously she has worked with Yasmin Lari, Shahid Khan and Marvi Mazhar on projects of varying scales and use. These projects include vocational training centers, documentation of heritage buildings, and the Karachi Zoo Project.
Rejah enjoys reading and uses photography to shed light on the extraordinary nature of everyday life.
