Craft Center, NOWPDP

NOWPDP is an organization committed to providing opportunities to those who are differently abled. The organization had requested for two craft centers to be developed. The first center is comprised of a small room characterized by a wall made of discarded stone. The room sits next to an outdoor working space that is used for block-printing and gatherings. The space is made using a metal frame and transluscent polycarbonate sheets that would allow for light and the shadows of moving leaves.

The project brief requested for a sheltered space for craft based activities on the roof of an exisiting building. This called for a lightweight structure that would provide for shade and a comfortable working enviornment. Reimagining the use of discarded plastic bottles and wood shavings, the project is conceived as a series of screen walls made of the aforementioned materials. A thatched roof is supported using a bamboo structure, held together by traditional bamboo rope joinery.
