A Home Around a Pool
Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan
Interior Renovation, Built
30,000 Sq. Ft.
This home is for a ceramist and a painter. The couple wished to have spaces in which they could each create their art in a specific and solitary way. As a design strategy, the home is divided into a studio and living unit. A screened courtyard in the middle allows for ample light and cross ventilation. It serves as an interstitial space that separates but also connects the two sections of the home.

Señorita is a Pakistani clothing brand characterised by a range of vibrant and lively designs.
The design is centered around an axial arcade, starting from the heart of the space which houses the public functions - the reception, conference room and display area. This zone radiates into the design studio on one side, and the admin and finance department on the other.
The entrance and the axis are characterised by two embroidered arch doors, which are a defining feature of this project. These doors are a labour of love, they are hand embroidered in their factory by the Senorita craftspeople. They provided an opportunity to create a functional piece of art, allowing us to integrate the craft of embroidery into the interior design of the project.
The axis culminates into a window on one end, and a large mirror reflecting back the experience on the other end. These arches at both ends are set into walls with coloured stippling panels - a reverse of the embroidery craft.
