A Home Around a Pool
Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan
Interior Renovation, Built
30,000 Sq. Ft.
This home is for a ceramist and a painter. The couple wished to have spaces in which they could each create their art in a specific and solitary way. As a design strategy, the home is divided into a studio and living unit. A screened courtyard in the middle allows for ample light and cross ventilation. It serves as an interstitial space that separates but also connects the two sections of the home.
Verandah House
Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan
Un-built
500 sqyd
This house designed for a young couple is a simple structure nestled into a landscaped court. It allows for a synthesis of indoor and outdoor living.Spatially, by creating a simple plan centered around a verandah at the ground level, the house attempts to allow the experience of the landscape to bleed into the experience of the interior spaces.
The verandah creates a threshold between the wind catching courtyard, and the deeper spaces inside, while creating opportunities to pause and enjoy everyday moments.
The earthy finishes such as terracotta and light plaster come together beautifully to keep the space rooted, light and airy.
The Verandah House is a simple house, it allows one space to breathe in the scent of gentle breezes and enjoy the sunlight filtering through plants and trees.
