A Home Around a Pool
Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan
Interior Renovation, Built
30,000 Sq. Ft.
This home is for a ceramist and a painter. The couple wished to have spaces in which they could each create their art in a specific and solitary way. As a design strategy, the home is divided into a studio and living unit. A screened courtyard in the middle allows for ample light and cross ventilation. It serves as an interstitial space that separates but also connects the two sections of the home.
Dabeer Hemani co-founded Open Door Design Studio in 2014. With his entrepreneurial approach he focuses on a holistic view of design, construction and all other elements that become part of the process. He specializes in working collaboratively with clients to translate their ideas and goals into innovative and empathetic designs. Dabeer enjoys forming strong client relationships which more than often continue well beyond the project completion stage. From a small office space to a multi-use residential building, Dabeer’s goal is to create meaningful and comfortable spaces that help enrich the lives of those who inhabit them.
Dabeer also serves as Director at Prompt Enterprises - a construction and fit out firm that his father founded thirty years ago. During his time as an architecture student, he co-founded Rahnuma - a community service organization that continues to operate at his IVSAA. As a founding partner, he brings the same spirit of community engagement to the studio.
Dabeer is also actively involved at the Institute of Architects Pakistan; being elected on the Executive Committee for three tenures and is one of the youngest honorary secretaries to have served in the organization.
